National Theatre London – July 7th & 8th

We are presenting our new work in progress performance at Watch This Space, National Theatre, London as a part of Gone in 20 Minutes(Gi20) festival, on the 7th & 8th of July 2012, at 5 pm. 

Gi20, now in its second year, is a national showcase supporting 10 emerging artists and companies to develop and present new work at two high-profile arts festivals in the UK.

Lara Ritosa Roberts is working with a contemporary dancer Lisa Hood and circus artist / trick bike performer Alice Allart on devising a new 20 minute piece ‘ A Story Which will Never be Finished…’ combining movement theatre, performance art and sound within a minimalist setting that echoes the aesthetics of protest. The sound collage features poems by Vladimir Mayakovsky & text by Leonid Andreyev.

Yugo Yoga with Performance Klub Fiskulturnik

From 11am-4pm Performance Klub Fiskulturnik will guide you through Yugo Yoga – a unique body / mind discipline fusing yoga, mass dance choreography, poses from public sculptures, political slogans and new age messages of self improvement. As you step back in time you’ll experience the echoes of ‘Eastern Block’ mass games and the past and present will collide. Performance Klub Fiskulturnik will be on hand all day for you to experience their unique yoga practice or join them in a mass class at 3pm on the terrace.

The Yellow Wallpaper – scratch performance at Jacksons Lane’s Postcards festival

 
We are presenting a work in progress piece on 12th of June at Jacksons Lane as as a part of Lab:Time evening during the Postcards festival together with 9 other scratch acts / pieces.
 
We’ll present a 10 min performance conceived during an intensive research day at the Circus Space back in April.

Visual artist / director Lara Ritosa Roberts and circus artist Zoe Jones collaborated on ways of staging a narrative based on the Yellow Wallpaper story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman – a prominent American sociologist, novelist and writer, described as a ‘utopian feminist’.

Written in 1890, in a diaristic style, it follows a woman suffering from ‘mental exhaustion’ and depression, confined to a rest room by her doctor husband in order to recuperate. As a part of her recovery therapy she’s forbidden from writing, expressing herself or socialising. Locked in her room she becomes obsessed with the wallpaper patterns…

For this scratch performance, we added the creative input of film maker and artist Duncan Reekie, a founder member of the infamous Exploding Cinema Collective, who provided projections for the piece. The soundtrack features Marcel Duchamp ‘La mariée mise à nu par ses celibataires même’ and words from the story narrated by Elise Roberts.
